I'm artistic. Well, I wouldn't say "artistic;" I'd say more like crafty. I like crafts. I like to make things. I have a wonderful mind that shows me all of these magical things that I usually can't make (ha ha!). I've had acrylic paints for over a year now. I've always wanted to paint, however, I don't draw well. That's always been an inhibition to me.
I found this cool denim jacket. It was on sale for just $7.00. Why not? I need a jacket. I actually bought two - one for me and one for my son. Of course he balked at the idea that we had the same jacket. I said, "Don't worry; I'm going to trick mine out." He rolled his eyes - like they do. I don't care how old they get. They still roll their eyes when they think their mom's doing something silly.
I laid the jacket on the floor and for the first time ever in life, got out my acrylic paints that have been just hanging out in my crafts closet forever. The jacket stared at me for a while and then I started drawing something with white tailor's chalk. I had no idea what I was doing and what I was going to do. I decided to just let the picture on the jacket unveil itself to me.
I could go into great detail about what I really saw and really wanted to draw, but my lack of skills held me back. So, I compromised and did the things I could. Though it turned out okay (pretty cool actually), I still look at it and see what I wanted to be there. Maybe I'll get it exact next time. I'll work on my little drawing skills more. I'll paint some more. I'll figure it out. But until then, it's cool. I'm glad I did it.
To further differentiate between our jackets, I also added some deep front pockets on the lower part of the jacket that hold my keys and cellphone oh so well. The sewing part was easy.
What's been buzzing in the back of your mind to do and when are you going to do it?
