My Love to Windsor Farmers Market and Many Others!

I am so grateful to the lovely Town of Windsor.  When I came back from Las Vegas, I was looking for a place to sing.  I love to sing everything - all kinds of music and I didn't want to be confined to one specific genre of music.  They made a place for me.  I started singing at the Windsor Farmers Market a few years ago.  I have history with them because I used to be a vendor selling the bags and hats I designed and made.  It was mad fun every summer.  And it was great to see the same crew every year - with new added faces!

Andy Lepak is an awesome musician and singer.  I was pleased to be his counterpart on opposite weeks!

This summer has been great (despite the extreme heat in July - it made it tough to be out there singing - but it was done!).

I am also grateful to Lost Acres Winery, Hartford Farmers Market, Granby Farmers Market, New London, Town of East Hartford, Town of Seymour, Alvin Carter, Doug Long, Warren Byrd, Saskia Laroo, Greater Hartford Arts Council, City Steam, Windsor Senior Center (all the cool people who hired me for private parties) and all of the totally awesome people who enjoyed the music all summer long and took my cards and shared my info.

There's much more to come as I look forward to getting back into writing and branching out by tailoring some shows specific to Jazz and specific to Opera!  All of the other fun music stays so don't worry!

My agent, Renee Prescott, is my ROCKSTAR!  I love her because though she's busy with her own band, Shaded Soul, she always has my back and makes magical gigs happen!

Hartt Scholarship to Study Opera!

I was born with a big opera voice. I've always been able to sing operatically, even as a young child at the age of six.  I was never formally trained in opera and my talent went unnoticed.

When I was in my mid-thirties, a woman wanted me to move to New York City for three months to study opera.  She wanted me to learn all the great pieces and to meet people.  I was a mom with children and a wife with a husband. There was no way I could leave them for three whole months.  So, I had to let the opportunity go by.  It wasn't for me because the conditions weren't right and the time wasn't right.

The opportunity has returned!  I am honored and humbled to have received a scholarship from Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford to study opera!

Now the time is right and the opportunity has returned and the conditions are far more reasonable.  I don't have to relocate and can do this from where I currently live.  I'm only about 20 minutes away from the university.

I am working with Dr. Susan Mardinly, whom I lovingly call "Fairy."  She is a wonderful, wonderful teacher who truly cares about her students.  She welcomes me with a smile and warm energy every week. Dr. Mardinly listens, gives feedback and makes suggestions and corrections as necessary.  She has a well thought out plan and has introduced me to a number of African American opera singers on youtube to help expand my horizons.  She is awesome and I am so grateful to be working with her.

I am also extremely grateful to have my talent recognized. I was born with a big opera voice but have never received formal training for it.  Now I am! It just goes to show you that if you have talent, know that it's never too late!

Tomaca Rocks the Block!

One of my favorite things to do is to volunteer to provide entertainment for the Windsor Farmers' Market!

Windsor is my home town and I love Windsor!  It's diverse, friendly and has a great small town feel.  My neighbors are cows and they are some of the coolest people on the planet!

At this event, I enjoy catering to families and especially the children.  "The Floor is Lava" is a great child captivating song.  I smile when the little ones hear the song and turn and stare at me as they climb up on their parents when "the floor is lava" words ring out.  It's great. And no - I don't sing this song; it's part of the DJ'ing I do for the event.

So, I'll sing some, DJ some, sing some, DJ some ...   Last year, I had a regular group of lady dancers who would show up and totally turn it out!  I hope those ladies come back this year!

Also, there are chairs and tables on the sidewalk provided by The Bean. So, the Windsor Farmers' Market is a great place to 1) buy some healthy produce from local farmers, 2) chill out n' relax and 3) hear some music.

I am performing for the opening market on June 15th and then every first Thursday of the month through October.  And, just so you know  - I DO "Rock the Block!"

See ya there!
